The business was founded in 2004, when my partners and I identified a gap in the market. There were only three players in the
market then, with themarket leader havingmore than 87%market share. We started trading actively in 2006.
One of our partners, who is the brains behind this amazing brand/product and a co-founder (Maggie Mogase), who also
happen to be our grandmother, had a secret recipe of making mageu. We had an opportunity to test the market, doing tasting
sessions in busy areas, targeting taxi ranks, filling stations, bus stations, schools, local shops/spazas, supermarkets and some of
the bottom-end markets. Given the response we received, we then moved to bigger premises and invested in manufacturing
equipment. Mageu has historically been consumed by males (middle-aged), and we are now starting to witness the shift/new
trend in consumption into the youthmarket.
