Look for the Gold

I recently needed a new tooth brush, and opened up the next new one I found lying around in my drawer. As a mom I tend to buy things as and when I see them, so it was a while ago that I bought it. Anyway, when I opened it to use it, I noticed a little “button”, which I pushed out of curiosity, not expecting anything to happen. Suddenly the whole toothbrush started to vibrate, like an electric toothbrush. It struck me that for months I had been using cheap ordinary toothbrushes, and never noticed nor bothered to open the one that was so special.

Every morning since then I have thought about how easily we can overlook talent right in front of us. It reminded me of a quote from Dale Carnegie, when being asked why it was that he was able to develop so many leaders within his organization. He said “Men are developed the same way gold is mined. Several tons of dirt must be moved to get an ounce of gold. But you don't go into the mine looking for dirt. You go in looking for gold.”

This applies when developing your children, your staff or people in general. That is why within The Hope Factory we believe that everyone is valuable and has something to contribute, which is why we spend time and money in developing them.
