Rugby and Endurance
Let me try another sports analogy that just seems to fit where I am right now…
When I watch a rugby game, it seems to me that a large part of it involves holding the line, enduring the hits, and trying to move forward when you can…
A lot like social enterprises, and even life in general…
As a social enterprise, the staff “team” has to have the courage and determination to endure. As each wave of attack comes in rugby, the team has to hold the line, and defend. Tackle again and again. Stand up when knocked down, and get straight back in the game.
As in rugby most of the time it feels like you work so hard to move forward, then get knocked back again, and then push forward again, only to have the ball kicked back into your 22. But like South Africa, the team that wins is the team that is able endure. Because the breaks do come, and points can be scored, but in between those good times, the team needs to defend the attacks every time.
So keep holding the line because there is nothing as good as that final dive over the line when you do score…
